A lesson I learned as soon as I left college "prepared" for my career in advertising is that I wasn't prepared. Not one bit. My first retail print ad nearly resulted in a mental breakdown, my first photo shoot turned me into an psychopathic insomniac and now my first digitally integrated campaign feels like it's giving me the ulcer I've long been expecting.
Although I'm losing sleep and spending way to much time in work (and therefore not enough time playing Call of Duty) I've learned that the only way to learn, is to do. As tiring, stressful, and nauseating as the experience is it's better to embrace the risk than run away from it.
Here are some interesting articles that helped me through the first week of my first digital campaign:
Clifford Singers article Five Lessons from Mydavidcameron. This is well worth a read. 5 lessons learnt on the job.
Ogilvy's very useful Facebook Bootcamp. A "how to" for those Facebook campaigns all your clients want.
And finally this piece of digital marketing gone very very wrong by Vodafone. A lesson in what not to do.
I hope some of these help you if you're a digital newb like me. If have any interesting articles please send them on to me.
